Lake Toxaway can justify 113 miles if the boys turn it into a proper mountain weekend. The course isn't huge on the available card, but a 137 slope, protected greens and the lake setting give it more teeth than the yardage suggests. The Fazio learning center also makes this one of the better places to show up early instead of rolling three putts across the practice green and declaring yourself ready.

Access is the whole deal. A member-hosted stay, an eligible rental or the Greystone pathway can get you there; simply booking any cabin in Lake Toxaway cannot. At the currently published Greystone price, this is a premium destination round—not a value hunt.
