This is the rare private course where the drive isn't the question—the invitation is. On paper, Wade Hampton looks like top-shelf mountain golf without the usual collection of tricked-up shots just to prove you're in the mountains. Fazio had serious land to work with, and the national reputation says he didn't waste it. The streams, rock and valley setting appear to supply the drama while the course supplies the decisions. We're not going to pretend eight app reviews tell the whole story, and we're definitely not going to write like we slipped through the gate ourselves. Still, the design history and decades of ranking evidence make the call pretty easy.
